Basketball is a sport, normally played by two teams of five players in a rectangular court. The game aims to shoot the ball through a hoop which is precisely 18 inches (46 cm) in diameter and at a height of 10 feet (3.048 m) to backboards at each end of the court.
About the Coach Mr. Amruth Raj a National coach who is very passionate about grooming young lads in this popular sport has been playing the sport right from his school days. In the year 1998 his journey began by representing the inter district level tournaments and in the following years played and won many medals in National level championships in junior, senior and zone (south) including federation cup. With all his wealth of experience he conducted a summer camp in 2007 to identify potential players and he initiated the Academy in the year 2009 today more than 100 Basket ball enthusiasts are associated with this one of its kind academy which promotes this world’s most popular sport.
Basketball is one of the world’s most popular and widely viewed sports. The National Basket Ball Association (NBA) is considered to be the prestigious body the top level of professionals in the world and NBA players are the world’s best paid sportsmen. According to the Amruth Raj who heads the Basket Ball academy “Although Basket Ball is a much popular sport only in the advanced countries where it is played right from schooling age the craze for this popular sport can be seen in various parts of our country our objective was to start One Model Basket Ball Academy in Sainikpuri and we were able to achieve that with the support of few parents who encouraged their children to take up the sport” concluded the proud coach whose academy products today are representing university and national level championships which is praise worthy achievement.
There are many techniques involved in mastering this sport which involves ball-handling, shooting, passing, dribbling, and rebounding. Basketball teams like football have typical player positions, the tallest and strongest members of a team are called a center or power forward, while shorter and fit players are positioned in what is called small forward, the shortest players in the team who possess the best ball handling skills are called a point guard or shooting guard. The point guard is the key player for guiding the on court action of the team, implementing the coach’s game plan.
