Literates learn the WORD; illiterates learn the WORLD!

Exploring how schooling and early literacy learning damages the
natural cognitive system meant for learning the real world.

The talk will focus on how one learns the real world. Since children
are the true learners there will be a discussion on how children
develop their cognitive system to learn the real world and also how
schools and teaching damages this natural formation.

Learning is the very basis on which life exists. All living beings are
cognitive beings and are all the involved in learning and
self-evolving/ self-developing. “Teaching’ is a fairly new invention
by human beings after the introduction of literacy. As time went by
human beings began to learn the WORD instead of the WORLD.

Children are born creative and as they progress in so-called education
they regress in creativity and intelligence. The task before us is to
understand what we do in schools and in ‘modern’ families that reduce
the ability in children’s creativity so that we can consciously create
situations for awakening and nurturing of intelligence and creativity.

The following issues will be addressed in the talk

1. understanding play as the learning process in children.
2. drawing as a cognitive tool.
3. language is merely the description of knowledge, not knowledge itself
4. science and art as an integral experience.
5. Development of value – care, love, trust, humility, innocence, justice
6. Development of qualities- creativity, intelligence, spontaneity,
sensitivity, beauty, patience……..
7. Re-imagining cognitive conditions for children to develop their
natural cognitive abilities.
