Senior citizen’s Welfare Association established in the year 2001 in a sprawling area in Dr.A.S Rao Nagar is the most preferred place for all the senior citizens in this zone. The association frequently conducts various activities for the welfare of its members. All the retired employees of ECIL, State and Central Government besides other PSU’s are the members of this esteemed association as they feel this is one way they can maintain linkage with their former colleagues.
According to R.Krishna Murthy the president there are about 1200 members in this fifteen year old organization which has a full fledged library besides recreational facilities for its members. The executive body oversees the maintenance and day to day activities from the interest of the membership fee which is kept in a fixed deposit in bank. Vice President Ram Mohan Rao highlighted that celebrating birthdays of all the members on a convenient day every month besides frequent health check-ups are some of the core activities of the association. Secretary Mr. Venkateshwarao shared that they have a goal to mobilize more resources to extend medical assistance to the needy members.
The model group of senior citizens participated in “Say no to Elder Abuse Awareness Day on the June 15th 2016 and took a pledge to address the issues related to senior citizens. Mr. S. Malla Reddy Assistant Director from the Department of Disabled and Senior citizens welfare was the chief guest he appreciated the activities of the association and promised to extend support from government to take it to the next level. The event which is co-hosted by Helpage India launched a mobile APP which is called SOS which means “save our seniors” Mr.Raza Mohammed State Head and Yathindranath Deputy director of Helpage India explained the features of this novel initiative designed for the aged.
