Making A Difference! Elite Women’s Group – Sainikpuri
Five ladies from Sainikpuri are setting trends of charity with their unique approach Mrs. Sudha Garthi (75), Mrs. Sudha Raghuram (74), Mrs. Lalitha Aiyer (71), Mrs. Gushan Gev Bamboat (63) and Mrs. Manjula Reddy have designed a unique model of generating resources for charity. They collect accessories, bags, clothes, books, shoes and electronic goods that are in working condition but not being used by households and all such mobilized items are sold to low income groups at a lesser price and route the proceeds to charitable organizations.
Mrs. Sudha Garthi a retired lecturer by profession is the brainchild behind this initiative as in the past she has rich exposure of working on such initiatives. She struck with this novel idea as she feels “ Merely approaching people to donate for a cause will not work instead this method is proving to be effective” she concluded.
Lalitha Aiyer a core member of this initiative says that “After collecting the material we segregate and decide on pricing the products based on their market value which is a important process we follow.”
Mrs. Manjula who is part of this initiative says that the objective is not giving these items freely to needy is anything that we get freely we tend to take it for granted hence we want them to attach importance she concludes.
Gulshan a house wife who is in this five member group says that “Mostly our activity is through word of mouth and we tell people to spread the word.”
One amazing achievement of this group is with their persistent efforts during the last year they were successful in raising a whopping 75000/- Rs. which they donated to Anurag a NGO which works for the welfare of the mentally challenged children, Videhi Ashram for girls, and Baljyothi Orphanage. The larger society definitely can make a difference by partnering with such a Elite women’s group a true role models for their commendable work.
